The tread is the walking surface of the staircase. Our treads are made with solid hardwoods; not veneered mdf or some other substrate. We laminate no more than three individual pieces to produce our final tread. We feel this is necessary to produce a final product that is both structurally sound as well as aesthetically pleasing. The handrail is the part of the staircase that people hold onto for support when going up and down the stairs. Most times the handrail species is chosen to match the treads and flooring, but we frequently see mixing and matching of complementary woods. (Such as White Oak treads and flooring with Mahogany handrail.)

OUR PROCESS
The Plan
It all starts with a plan. Our designer comes to your home to draft a take-off. During this time, they measure all aspects of your existing stair or stair space, discuss your intentions for the space, and show you what options are available.
The Proposal
Our designer will then draft a proposal, and shop drawings, that outlines our course of action, the parts that will be used, and the overall cost of installation. The shop drawings will show the dimensions and layout of the proposed staircase/handrail.
The Parts
We give our customers the option of having all their parts custom-made in our shop or ordering parts from one of our trusted vendors. We keep in close contact with our customers to update them on production, deliveries, and our timeline for installation.
The Installation
Our team will show up on the day of installation ready to put your staircase and handrail into place. They will work quickly and efficiently to get the job done, then they will clean up their area so you can just relax and enjoy the sight of your new staircase.

Every piece of wood in a Masterpiece staircase is custom-made in our shop and carefully inspected for color consistency, grain, and overall appearance. No mass-produced staircase is given this level of attention.
Attention to Detail
- With treads, we never use more than three pieces of wood, while off-the-shelf treads often use as many as 4 or 5 pieces. The result can be a mismatched piece that detracts from the overall appearance of the staircase.
- We minimize the number of joints and never use unsightly finger joints
- Our craftsmen do all installations, from simple straight stairs to complex double-elliptical circular stairs. We understand that proper installation is critical, which is why our highly skilled and experienced artisans make sure the smallest details are done correctly. They take time to make adjustments due to the inevitable variations that occur in every building project.
- All rails are manufactured to perfectly fit the profile of the job. Balustrades are carefully hand built on the job site and fit precisely to finish.
