Over-the-Post or Post-to-Post
Post to Post Application
In this type of balustrade application the handrail is interrupted by turned or box newels. The newels will often be designed with some type of finial element that extends well beyond the height of the handrail. Depending on the nature of the newel and balusters selected this rail system will be more cost effective than an over the post application. |
Over the Post Application
Over the Post rail application is a system of continuous handrail. The rail passes uninterrupted over the newels and balusters with fittings. |
|
Often a post to post application will have gooseneck fittings incorporated into the balustrade to provide a more graceful transition between the changes in rail height from flight to flight. |
An over the post rail system will usually be more cost prohibitive than a post to post application depending on baluster and box newel selections since the handrail requires more components to travel from its starting point to its termination. |
